How Do You Adopt a Cat?
Visit your local animal shelter or pet rescue center to get a look at cats that are available to adopt. Maybe you will find that certain cat in need that touches your heart. Ask the attendant to allow you to hold and visit with the cat to judge how you get along.
You will have to complete an adoption application giving information about your family, past history with pets, your environment, what you are looking for and so on. Think of it as adopting a new family member. There will usually be an adoption fee which is due when cat is picked up. You will be expected to be able to provide food, health care, and nurturing for the cat for the duration of its life. Adoption is not something to go into lightly because cats can live for 20+ years.
If you decide that adopting a cat is too much responsibility, you can still help out at a cat rescue organization. They have many opportunities for volunteers to work with cats on a regular basis. Or just donate money to buy food when you can. Virtually all rescue organizations are desperately in need of food and/or money donations. You can make a difference. Hugs, Rosalyn
