10 Ideas for Cool Homemade Cat Toys

Cats are very playful and not a bit choosy about having homemade toys. They like almost anything as long as it is wiggly and they can throw it around. Anything they can climb on is also a winner.

# 1. Wads of typing paper, crumpled cellophane, and mobiles are especially fun for cats to hit about.

#2.) Stuff panty hose in a small sock and tie a knot at the end for a lightweight stuffed toy. Draw a face on the sock for a cute play thing. Simple stuffed animals and other shapes are easy to make from an old t-shirts or fabric scraps. Secure the ends well because the cat will try to get the stuffing out. Put a little catnip inside the toy for more live action. Oh my, so cute.

#3.) Fold a small piece of paper like a fan and use a piece of yarn or string to tie it in the middle so it looks like a bow. Dangle this new toy in front of kitty and see her jump and play trying to get a hold of the bow. Oh what fun!

#4.) Roll a marble across the floor so that your cat can chase it and bat it around. Actually anything that rolls is good. Try a pecan or walnut for a natural toy. Clean out from under the sofa often to find lost toys.

#5.) Hang two or three 5 ft. long ribbons from the top door facing and encourage kitty jump and play with the ribbons. They are so darling!

#6.) Tie a small mouse on a string and drag it along the floor for kitty to catch. So CUTE!

#7.) If you have a remote control car, entice your cat to play with it by starting and stopping it nearby. Too funny!

#8.) Cats love to play hide and seek with you. Call “kitty, kitty, kitty” and get behind the door. Your cat will act very sly and just hang around real cool like. Jump out at her and surprise her. Rinse and repeat!

#9.) Paper bags big enough to play in provide fun hiding and pouncing. I love this game!

#10.) Plastic Ester eggs make great toys for cats. Put a small bell or cat treat inside so it will rattle and they will play and roll the eggs for hours. Happy Easter Egg!

BONUS: Pony tail ties/holders are excellent cat toys. They are so excited to throw them up in the air, catch them and fight with them. You’re going to have so much entertainment you won’t need a TV!

Well, as you can see from these ideas that cats will play with just about anything. They are more fun than playing fetch with dogs. My cats and I have enjoyed each and every one of these homemade toys. I promise. Hugs, Rosalyn
